The 2024-25 NCAA golf season was a successful one for the California State University Fullerton (CSUF) Titans. The women’s team had its best-ever year, reaching the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history, while the men’s team won the Orange County Classic and had three players—Tegan Andrews, Giacomo Comerio, and Will Tanaka—earn all-conference awards.

The men’s team has gone through a bit of an overhaul over the summer. Andrews, a redshirt senior last season and the 2024 Big West Men’s Golfer of the Year, is no longer eligible, although both Comerio and Tanaka are returning for their senior and sophomore seasons, respectively. However, the Titans have four new golfers for the 2025-26 season, which began with the Ram Masters Invitational, hosted by Colorado State University, on September 11.

“We have many new faces on our team, which brings a high level of excitement as well as the usual concerns a coach might have when moving forward with a lack of experience,” said men’s golf head coach Jason Drotter. “I’m excited to see how our new players perform at this level and how our returners build on the momentum we had toward the end of the 2024–25 year.”

Here’s a look at the four new players for the CSUF Titans men’s golf.

Lance Nguyen

A true freshman from Huntington Beach, California, Lance Nguyen recently graduated from Huntington Beach High School, where he was a four-time MVP of the golf team and two-time Conference MVP. He also made First-Team All-Orange County in 2024 and was team captain this past season.

Nguyen also played on the PGA of America Southern California Junior Tour in the Toyota Tour Cup. In 2024, he made the cut in each of the nine events he played and had three top-25 finishes, including a second-place result at the Toyota Tour Cup Four-Ball at Twin Oaks Golf Course.

Eliot Vidal

A junior transfer from Reedley College, Eliot Vidal has been playing golf competitively for more than a decade and has had success at the junior college level and on the junior circuit in his native France. He played on the French Junior Golf circuit and recorded a five-under 67, his best-ever round, at The Golf Club de Nimes Campagne in his hometown of Nimes. After graduating high school, Vidal chose Reedley College with the goal of developing his game and earning a scholarship at a four-year college.

Through two seasons at the junior college level, Vidal helped lead the Tigers to back-to-back Central Valley Conference Championships and NorCal Championships. His team was runner-up to College of the Canyons in the state tournament. Vidal had a team-best 73.38 scoring average and also finished first in total birdies (141), green in regulation percentage (67.57), and birdie average (3.81).

His former coach at Reedley, Scott Stark, described him as a resilient golfer with great length off the tee and an improving short game. He also called him “super competitive” and “one of the nicest and most respectful kids that I have ever coached.”

Chase Yukawa

Another true freshman from California, Chase Yukawa graduated from Roseville High School, where he was the school’s first male golfer to make the state championship and finished in fifth place as a junior. He was also team MVP that season. Moreover, Yukawa was a four-time First Team All-Conference player at Roseville and played two seasons of varsity basketball. He has a current handicap index of +3.6, according to AmateurGolf.com.

Yukawa has also played several events on the Junior Tour of Northern California. He made six starts in 2025 and had three top-10 finishes, including a T3 result at Fall Series I at Cypress Lakes Golf Course in August. His low round for the season was 67, while his scoring average by par was 3.17 for par-3s, 4.32 for par-4s, and 4.72 for par-5s.

Shibo Wang

Born in Tianjin, China and a graduate of Tianjin Fayao High School, Shibo Wang is a junior transfer who had immense success through two seasons at the University of Rochester in New York. Wang was Liberty League Player of the Year in 2025, helped lead the team to consecutive Liberty League titles, and has the second-lowest scoring average (73.1) in program history. He finished the year ranked inside the top-100 among Division III golfers and was No. 2 in the region.

Wang’s lone individual win came at the SWNY-NWPA Amateur Championship in 2024. He has a career-best ranking of 1,182 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and played a handful of professional events in his native China before the 2025-26 NCAA season. He shot rounds of 67, 72, and 71 to finish eighth out of 36 golfers in the CLPGQ Gionee Series – 3 in June.

Returning Players

In addition to Tanaka and Comerio, redshirt senior Brenden Ashman, sophomore Nicky Benton, and redshirt junior Dante Lazare have returned for the 2025-26 season. Drotter is in his 17th season as head coach, while recent graduate Matthew Schafer joined the coaching staff as an assistant.
