Golf is one of nine men’s sports at California State University Fullerton (CSUF), along with basketball, soccer, and track and field. Since the program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season, the Titans have been consistent contenders in their conference, winning the Big West Championship in 2013, 2014, and 2019, while also recording seven top-five finishes (2011-12, 2017-18, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25). Several golfers, including Corey Gard, Matt Wilson, and Mark Anguiano have also had top-five individual finishes at the year-end tournament.

Below are six standout records over the course of more than 15 years of men’s golf at CSUF.

Lowest Single-Round Score (63)

Recent graduates Tegan Andrews and Garret Boe share the CSUF men’s golf record for the lowest single-round score at 63. Andrews, a 2025 graduate, shot an opening round 63 at the Big West Championship in 2024. He won the individual title for that event, shooting a 14-under 202 through three rounds and pacing the Titans to a second-place team finish. Andrews also was named Big West Men’s Golfer of the Year in 2024, becoming only the second Titan to earn the honor.

This was the second time Andrews shot a 63 during the 2023-24 season. Previously, he set the mark in the third round of the Visit Stockton Invitational, which he won with a 14-under 202.

Meanwhile, Boe shot a career-best 63 in the second round of the GCU Invitational during the 2022-23 season. His single-round average was 71.3 that season. Boe graduated in 2024, earning an All-Big West Honorable Mention.

Lowest Team Round (270)

As a team, the Titans have shot 275 or better in a single round 13 times, with nine of those coming since 2022. Their lowest team round score was a 14-under 270 in the third round of the 2023 Nick Watney Invitational. They were 7-under and 11-under in the first two rounds and finished second in the tournament, four strokes behind St. Mary’s.

Trevor McNary led the way for CSUF in the record-setting third round, shooting a career-best 5-under 66 to finish the tournament in 33rd place at 1-under par. He had an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole to finish the front nine 3-under par and carded birdies on two of the final four holes.

Andrews was the top Titan in the tournament, shooting 4-under in the final round to finish in third place. Matthew Schafer and Boe shot 3- and 2-under in the final round, while Russell Howlett shot an even 71.

Lowest 54-Hole Team Score (820)

Coincidentally, the Titans’ lowest-ever 54-hole score wasn’t good enough for a victory. Their 32-under 820 team score was four strokes behind St. Mary’s in the 2023 Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by California State University, Fresno at the Fort Washington Country Club. This was two strokes better than the 822—and first-place finish—the team scored at the 2013 Warrior Princeville Makai Invite.

CSUF’s third-lowest 54-hole score is 825, which was low enough to win the 2024 Orange County Classic.

Lowest 54-Hole Individual Score (199)

Andrews was a key contributor during CSUF’s record-setting performance at the 2023 Nick Watney Invitational, but his three-round score of 201 was still two strokes shy of the program record for lowest 54-hole individual score. Harry Doig, an Australian who played three seasons with the Titans, established that record with a 14-under 199 at the 2022 Nick Watney Invitational.

Doig tied for first place with Ian Gilligan of Long Beach. After consecutive rounds of 67, he trailed Gilligan by four strokes heading into the final round, but shot a career-best 65. Gilligan shot a 69.

Lowest 36-Hole Team Score (575)

The majority of NCAA golf tournaments are three, 18-hole rounds, but occasionally events are cut short due to inclement weather. CSUF has fared well in 36-hole events, scoring victories at the 2010 UC Riverside Dual, 2012 Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational, and the 2014 Big West Championship.

Paced by Anguiano, the Titans shot a program low 575 in the two-round tournament, scoring 288 and 287 in the first and second rounds, respectively. They finished two strokes ahead of second-place finisher Southern Utah University and eight ahead of the College of Charleston and Cal Poly, who tied for third-place.

Lowest 36-Hole Individual Score (141)

Anguiano’s 141 at the 2012 Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational established a new program record for lowest 36-hole individual score, surpassing the 143 shared by Nick Ellis, Dakota Duerr, Scott Rubzin, and Kyle De Silva. He finished the tournament tied for second, one shot behind winner Chris Russo of California State University, Northridge.

Anguiano equaled the 141 mark at the Big West Championship in 2014, again tying for second place.
