The California State University Fullerton (CSUF) men’s golf team has been quite successful since the program was reinstated in 2009-10, winning three Big West Championships and several other events, including the Bill Cullum Invitational and Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in 2023. In addition to the team’s success, several Titans have produced impressive scores in individual rounds.
The following nine CSUF men’s golfers have all carded rounds of 65 or lower, with some accomplishing the feat on multiple occasions.
1. Tegan Andrews
A recent graduate, Tegan Andrews is one of only two golfers in program history to shoot 63—and he did it twice. The Agoura Hills, California, native carded his first 63 during his senior season in 2023-24 at the Visit Stockton Invitational, finishing in third place for the round. Andrews shot a 14-under 202 to win the three-round tournament and subsequently earned Big West Golfer of the Month.
Andrews shot another 63 at the Big West Championship later that season, buoying CSUF to a second-place finish, just four strokes back of Long Beach State at 10-under. Andrews was 14-under himself, while his teammates were a combined four-over par. Andrews had three individual wins and six top 10 finishes in 2023-24.
While he wasn’t able to equal his career low of 63 as a redshirt senior in 2024-25, Andrews led the Titans to victory at the Orange County Classic and another second-place finish at the Big West Championship. He also was honored as the Big West Men’s Golfer of the Year.
2. Garrett Boe
A 2024 graduate and former teammate of Andrews, Garrett Boe briefly held the CSUF golf low round record when he shot a 63 in the second round of the GCU Invitational during the 2022-23 season. He shot 72 and 70 in the first and third rounds, respectively, finishing tied for fifth place in the event.
Boe led the Titans in scoring average (72.48) as a freshman in 2021 and became Big West Tri-Freshman of the Year. He shot a 65 in the Visit Stockton Invitational during his senior season in 2023-24 and earned All-Big West Honorable Mention that year.
3. Harry Doig
Australian Harry Doig spent just two seasons at CSUF and carded two rounds of 65, both of which were in the 2022-23 season. He first shot 65 in the Orange County Classic and then in the Nick Watney Invitational, which he won. Doig averaged 70.97 strokes per round in 2022-23 and, along with Boe, was a big reason for the Titans runner-up result in the Big West Championship.
Doig served as an assistant coach for the men’s golf team in 2023-24.
4. Derek Castillo
Derek Castillo, a University of Nevada, Las Vegas, transfer who played for CSUF from 2017-20, won the Bill Cullum Invitational in 2017 with a three-round score of 14-under par. He shot 65 in the second and third round of the tournament. Castillo also had three other top 10 finishes that season and was named to the All-Big West First Team.
Castillo shot 65 for the third time in his collegiate career at the Olympic Club Intercollegiate in 2018-19. He finished three-under par for the tournament, tied for second place, and had four other top-10 results in his junior season.
5. Matt Murphy
Matt Murphy was the first Titan to shoot 65 or better in the Big West Championship, having done so in the second round of the year-end tournament in 2017. Murphy’s previous career best individual round was a 68 in the second round of the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in September 2016.
6. Jack Ireland
One of a handful of CSUF alumni to play in a professional event, Jack Ireland spent his freshman season at CSUF in 2016-17 and finished second in scoring average (74.03). He had a season-best T14 result in the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate and shot a five-under 65 in the final round of the 20th Del Walker Intercollegiate in March.
Ireland transferred to UCLA following his freshman season. He played one event on the PGA Korn Ferry Tour in 2022, missing the cut at the Lake Charles Championship with a two-over 144 after two rounds.
7. Mark Anguiano
Another former Titan with professional experience, Mark Anguiano carded three rounds of 65 during his senior season in 2013-14. He achieved that score in the third round of the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate and first rounds of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invite and El Macerco Classic. Anguiano averaged a conference-best 69.72 that year and was the first Titan to make the NCAA Regionals since the program’s reinstatement. He won Big West Golfer of the Month three times as a senior and ended his CSUF career with the most career rounds (129) and single-season top-10 finishes (nine).
Since graduating, Anguiano has played in 47 events on the Korn Ferry Tour. He made 21 cuts and earned more than $85,000 in prize money. He also made 14 of 25 cuts on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and 13 of 20 cuts on the PGA Tour Canada. He played in three PGA Tour events, including most recently at the 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
8. Ryan Tetrault
Part of the Titans from 2012-15, Ryan Tetrault made the Big West First Team in 2014, the same year he shot a 65 in the third round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invite. He tied for sixth place with an 11-under 205. Tetrault received a Big West Honorable Mention in his senior season in 2014-15.
9. John San Juan
John San Juan played two seasons on the Titans after a successful two-year tenure at the community college level. He shot a 65 in the opening round of the 2010 Del Walker Invitational which, at the time, was the best individual round score since the program was reinstated.
